Dangerous Boating and boat wakes near shore: Nothing causes bad feelings in Carling faster than speeding or loud boats near your dock or swimming area. Shebeshekong Lake, Shebeshekong Bay, Deep Bay, Loon Bay, and Canoe Channel all have areas where boaters need to slow down near shore. Though not directly a municipal issue, it's one of the most common concerns raised by ratepayers when I am out campaigning for Mayor.

To protect the shoreline environment and the safety of all boaters and swimmers, Transport Canada established a Standardized Shoreline Speed Limit of 10 km/h within 30 metres of the shore. It is illegal to operate at speeds greater than the unposted Standardized Shoreline Speed Limit of 10 km/h (6 mph) within 30 metres (100 feet) of the shore in Ontario waters. This limit applies whether it is posted or not.
